Flashback to Wilma Recovery

10:18 pm Previous Hurricanes Archive

This video makes me cry sometimes. Going through Wilma was emotional, no matter how brave we may like to seem. Almost two years later, the things I remember are POSITIVE. I know, weird. I remember making friends with people I had never met. I remember neighbours bringing over milk because they had seen us with our new baby but had never met us. During the eye of the hurricane, the neighbours were walking around sharing news, sharing food and drink and offering assistance. After the hurricane everyone was in the streets cleaning up, offering to help with our yard and describing experiences. Friends came by with animal crackers and laughed with us, no matter how smelly we were. When I finally got electricity back and checked online, I saw thousands of supportive emails and posts on the message boards.

The incredibly rapid recovery of Cancun is due to the citizens of this city and the strong support of the Mexican government. Salud Cancun!

Vaya con Dios, Canuck. That new baby is now a beautiful boy! Seems it won’t be long before he can read all the supportive messages, in English & Spanish. My heart is with you, yours & all those in the path. May the Good Lord keep you in the palm of His hand, & may the wind stay off your backs! Until we are able to make a toast, face to face, from heart to heart I say SALUD!

I just watched this video yesterday when I was researching Dean as I had just visited Cancun two weeks ago. I hope you all are spared this time. I wish I would have found your web page prior to my last visit. We will be back!

My son Trent and his mates, Kookie and Baz are holidaying in your region at the moment. We hope and pray Hurricane Dean moves south and out to sea and does not do too much damage. Thankyou for the wonderful information you are providing, it helps to not worry so much if you can keep in touch with whats happening. Please look after our Aussie boys!!!!
