What a great resource your blog is. It’s difficult to get any news or info from people actually ON THE GROUND in Cancun from here in the states. Supposedly, I’m flying into Cancun on Saturday. Do you think the resorts/airport will manage the storm well based on your experience riding out Wilma?
Also, as a good friend of a meteorologist, the most damaging winds in a hurricane are in the Northeast quadrant.

Oliver - I’m certain that everyone here, from the airport officials to the resort managers to the regular folk, will manage the storm better that we did Wilma, because we’ve all just gone through this.
But it’s impossible to predict what the damage will be. I hate to say it but you must wait and see.
If Cancun’s airport is unscathed it will make everything else easier, and recovery will happen quicker.

Well good luck! We’ll be watching closely and thinking of all of you there now as Dean closes in.

God bless and good luck to all of those in the potential risk zones of hurricane Dean. I’m so glad my sister, who actually lives in Cancun now, has come home for a visit to Ontario. Wilma has made you all stronger, and I trust you will stave through this.
