Small but significant shift south
August 18, 2007 11:42 pm Previous Hurricanes ArchiveThe latest report suggests the proposed Yucatan landfall of Dean has made a small, but significant, shift southwards. The projected path of the eye is now some way south of Tulum. While this area is relatively unpopulated, those that do live there tend to live in poorly constructed housing, and are at major risk. So what might be good news for Cancun will be terrible news for some. Once Dean hits Jamaica tomorrow there may be further adjustments made to his Yucatan path.
As always, it’s wait and see time.

My nerves are shot, I have been on the internet for the past 3 days as much as I can and still doing my job. I can’t imagine how you guys down there are feeling. BTW, look for Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel broadcasting from Cancun tomorrow at 8 AM, I just saw a commercial.

I’m from Canada. Going to Los Angeles on the 28th. Then going to Cancun on the 30th. The trip to Cancun was free (all expenses paid and air trip) because my uncle has Timeshare. Do you think the hotel will give me a credit if I cancel?

Am eagerly awaiting your next post. My daughter lives in Cancun in a small beach-front apartment complex and I’m understandably nervous.
Thanks for taking the time to post your news and observations.

John- Every company has a different policy, you’ll need to check the contract for their “Act of God” clauses.
Liza- Hopefully your daughter has found some friends to bunk in with downtown and has taken the precautions necessary for riding out the storm. Stay in touch with her, pass on the information you are getting online if she doesn’t have it and hold on tight. I sometimes think this is harder on my family in Canada than on me so I know how you might be feeling. Take care!
