Update From The Cancun Airport

7:27 pm Previous Hurricanes Archive

I’ve just gotten an update related to my last post. It seems that the Canadians are taking good care of their people, as they always do, the major Canadian airlines are sending lots of empty planes to Cancun. Good for them!

The U.S. airlines are not doing quite as well as the Canadians. It seems the U.S. carriers are sending in lots of planes but there are some passengers on them. The report I heard was that the most full plane today had around 70 passengers on it. But most flights from the U.S. are coming with fewer than 30 people on them. So the good news is that there are planes coming in and that means more people can get out before Hurricane Dean hits us.

Any news on the Brits Kim?

  2. Rivergirl Says:

No news on European or British flights today Steve. Most of those flights arrive late in the day, so like NOW! We may be able get a report later on today.

Last night a flight came from Amsterdam and it was full of passengers who were unaware of Hurricane Dean.

In the days just before Wilma hit the flights from Europe and England were coming FULL! And most passengers had no idea a hurricane was upon us. It was quite tragic for them. They had planned their vacations months in advance and then arrived only to stay in a shelter and ride out a terrible storm.

I am scheduled to fly into Cancun from Los Angeles on Wednesday. What do you think the chances of that happening are? Are the hotels being evacuated? What is the latest word from the airport? Are flights still scheduled for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday?

  4. Steve Says:

Jeff, chances are slim I would say.

Hotels will not be evacuated until it becomes too dangerous too stay there. Hotel evac’s are expected Mon am.

  5. JEFF Says:

Thanks, for your opinion. Do you live down there Steve? How long have you been there? How many hurricanes have you been through?
