A few pics from the Cancun Hotel Zone Today

2:06 pm Previous Hurricanes Archive

We had a drive out to the Cancun Hotel Zone today at lunchtime. It was very quiet with few tourists around. The skies were near normal and though a little breezy by the sea it was nothing out of the ordinary and the sun was shining. The beach is at Playa Marlin, near to the Tucancun and Villas Marlin, behind Plaza Kukulcan. We have some video which we are just editing and putting together and should be online soon.

Just gone 3pm here and although the skies are becoming cloudy, and winds picking up a little there’s no sign of rain yet.

Thanx for the images! Again its reassuring to see the calmness and HOPING for the best and that Cancun doesn’t not get directly hit! Best of luck to you (& my parents who are trying to vacation there now!)

I just wanted to thank you for your blog. I was in Cancun last week, my daughter and i were due to fly out this Wednesday but decided to leave to avoid Dean. My parents decided to stay, they live in a condo on the island(Casa Maya) and stayed to make sure everything was going to be ok. They stayed for Wilma, guess they like the excitement. Ive passed on the link to your blog and they have been keeping up with it as well as a few other owners who are not there right now. It seems it will not be as rough as originally predicted, my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and everyone there in Cancun.
    blessings

    Hi!

Will you please consider adding these pictures to NoComment News at http://NoCommentNews.com ?

NoComment News shows in pictures what’s happening around the world now. There’s a special report in pictures submitted by the bloggers who captured hurricane dean. Your pictures of this calmness are great to fulfil this report.

    Thank you!

Everyone in Cancun, residents and tourists, will be in my thoughts and prayers today and through the night until Dean passes and is not longer a threat.

    Hi all,

Thanks so much for the update and the calm demeanour in which you post the latest news on Dean.
Across the pond, the weather news is somewhat glorified, not in terms of the severity and potential damage caused but by the actual reported path.
My thoughts are with everyone out there, Godspeed!

Just a few words of reassurance – i was stuck in a hurricane shelter for 5 days during the Wilma strike – we were looked after fantastically well by the mexican authorities in charge of our shelter and i will be forever in their debt – from a European perspective its very difficult to evacuate tourists – its roughly a 10 hour flight just to get to cancun from the uk – so logistacally just to bring back 300 people will take up approx 24 hours – whereas from the states it would take approx 6 hours so is a lot more straight forward. So to those Europeans with relatives and friends stuck in Cancun my thoughts are with you but rest assured the mexicans will do their very best to make sure all tourists are safe and well – they might have to put up with some squalid conditions but thats a small price to pay – once again I am eternally gratefull to our Mexican hosts in our shelter ( unfortunatly not all nationalities were as thankfull !!! ). Best wishes to all affected – my thoughts will be with you

My prayers are with everyone living or vacationing in Cancun/Riviera Maya. We just left there on 8/5. I saw the damage Wilma left and hope Dean dosen’t do the same.

Thanks for publishing this blog. I have heard indirectly from a cousin who flew out of Cancun last night that it was very difficult to get good information at her hotel. The hotel cut off the news channels on their televisions and tried to discourage their guests from evacuating.

She was able to get out to Denver on one of the extra flights that Frontier added. The flight was not full when it took off, which I take as an indicator of the imperfect flow of information in these circumstances.

Thanks to all, we’re doing great right now, hopefully will continue to do so. Send your thoughts to the people south of us too, they’re going to get his worse than we are.

We’re hoping for the best for all of you in the Yucatan, especially those to the south of Cozumel who have the least resources to deal with Dean’s force. You are in our hearts and meditations.

    Hi everyone,
my family was supposed to go to Cancun this past Saturday but didnt because of Dean. However, other family members still went…they are staying at the royal resorts, I have heard that they already got evacuated(possible rumor) anyone have any information on that? any help and or info would be great! Prayers to all of Cancun.

I hope Dean will pass Yucatan quickly, leaving little or no damage. Good luck to those of you staying in Cancun, stay safe.
