Hey guys.. thanks for all of your updates. I am due to arrive in 2 weeks and will be staying at the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar in Playa Del Carmen.. Can anyone tell me what happened there and wether or not they think I should cancel my plans due to damage, beach erosion, etc? Any and all info and advice would be much appreciated!!

Sleep tight and buena suerte! You guys have been a godsend to me as I follow your stories to help me decide what to do about our upcoming visit to Cancun this week.

Thanks very much for your updates. We send our best wishes that this finds you, and all the folks in Dean's path, well and unscathed in the morning.

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=42056

This is the Yucatan Basin sea buoy, at location:
19.87 N 85.06 W (19°52'27" N 85°03'33" W)

At 0350 GMT (0050 EST) on Aug 21, this gave a wave height of 36 ft !!!
with 50+ knots gusts and 35 or so sustained wind.

The buoy is still live.
