Suddenly Dean
August 20, 2007 8:25 pm Previous Hurricanes ArchiveAll of a sudden it’s raining hard and the wind is blowing hard. We suspect we will lose power shortly. Goosebumps on all our arms! Oh wow, it’s really blowing and it’s still early. Will continue to post as long as I can. Hang on Mexico!

Does anyone know if there are parts of Cancun without any phone lines/or power? From the above comments i see that some still have power. I cant seem to get through to my friend by phone. So I am worried. I hope everyone there will be safe!
August 20th, 2007 at 9:33 pm
Still power and phone here Lisa, the wind and rain is not that strong at the moment. We did have a big storm about an hour ago where the lights flickered for a while, but I’d doubt any areas of Cancun have lost power or phones yet

Thank you Steve for leaving your comment! I hope my friend is ok I’ve tried emailing and by phone! All I can do is wait now! I hope you are all safe my prayers are with all of you there!

Hola from Grande Prairie, Alberta! I just spoke with my husband who who lives in Playa del Carmen. Everything is pretty calm at the moment - 10:30 pm local time. Just a bit of a breeze with gusts every now and then - just like we get in G.P. We live close to the mountains, therefore are use to windy weather. But, hey, the worst is yet to come so be watchful and keep safe. Our prayers are with you all. Love you, Riviera Maya - I’ll be there on Saturday!!

SM22 is without power as of now, and a report from a reputable local there is saying the power in the city will be turned off at 100AM local Cancun time.
