I echo the same sentiment – thank you for the website!
I checked weather.com and it says scattered t-storms and 60% chance of rain for the next week. Is that true? I’m dying for some sun!

Thanks so much for this! We were about to cancel our trip to Cancun this Friday the 24, but we saw your pictures and now we are definitely going! Thanks again.

Can’t thank you enough for your time and efforts, Steve. Not only for this hurricane blog which truly put many minds at ease and has allowed me to convince my friends that we can still look forward to our January trip, but for all your work on the Cancuncare Message Board, etc., etc., etc. You’re the best and am thankful you and yours are all safe and sound.

I just wanted to say a BIG BIG thank you! Your blog has been a great help! 20 of us fly out from England next Monday and we were really worried we wouldnt be able to go, but I have kept all 20 updated thanks to your blog. I would’ve been quite concerned about what state Cancun would be in after Dean but after seeing your pictures and videos I can see everything is fine. Thank you again, and I’m glad you’re all safe and sound.

Is it true that it is going to be rainy and stormy these next few days or for up to a week?
August 22nd, 2007 at 2:45 am
Adam – according to weather.com, that is the outlook. I’ve been asking the same question too.
August 22nd, 2007 at 2:51 am
Adam – “I-LOVE-CANCUN!” posted the following yesterday to similar questions:
SP, where did you see that it is going to rain the entire week of 8-27? Not sure if you have ever been to Cancun, but it is a very tropical place and it can rain out of the blue. It is so hot & humid there, that vacationers are glad for the occasional sprinkle. But as quickly as rain comes, it goes. So no need to worry, ok. Below is a forecast I found for the week of 8-27:

Thanks for that update! do you think the sun will come out from sunday onwards! whats the weather like now?
August 22nd, 2007 at 5:18 am
On a whim, last week my friend and I booked a trip Cancun — no reservations or itinerary, just show up and play it by ear… then we checked the weather reports and considered scrapping the ill-conceived plans. But thanks to this wonderful site, we waited it out and luckily it seems all will be fine for our arrival later today!
Given our last-minute planning, we figured this could work out pretty nicely if the hotels have lots of vacancies due to cancellations… does that seem correct? If anyone knows of special rates, we’re interested!
Kudos to the contributors of this blog — it is by far the most informative and useful of media resources. We’d like to offer our thanks in person, but you might be wary of us strangers/tourists. So instead, we’ll just click on a whole bunch of your site’s advertisements so that you can at least make some money for all your hard work.

Awesome to know everything is ok. We are flying out Saturday morning and have been watching the weather like a hawk. Thanks for all the updates. This is our 5th time going and would have gone regardless we love it there so much.

August 22nd, 2007 at 9:34 am
I am going to Cancun Thursday 8/23, and was a little worried about any damages. Cancun looks great! My worries are now subsided. Thanks for taking the time to make this blog! I, and as well as others, really appreciate it! Thanks again!
August 22nd, 2007 at 9:43 am
Very happy that everyone is OK. Can’t tell you how informative all of the bloggers have been and what a sense of humour that you kept. Coming to Cancun again next month, love it there. The Royal Resorts have an update on their site, if anyone wants to check on their hotels. Thanks again for all the info, hope that all the animals stayed safe too.

August 22nd, 2007 at 1:10 pm
hi. i am flying out to cancun on august 26 to riu palace las americas and i am trying to find out if the damaged areas have been cleaned up and if the beach are alright and how is the weather looking next week.
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:54 pm
Hi Alex. I am also flying out on 8/26 to riu palace las americas. I checked on http://www.riu.com and I know the hotel itself is okay. I haven’t heard any news about the beaches and I’ve been curious about that too. We are going regardless and we are really excited about our trip! I think there are 60% rain chances next week, but I saw another poster that said it doesn’t rain all day when it does rain. I have been to Cancun and Playa del Carmen. This will be my 3rd trip to the area and I love it there! How long are you staying?
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:56 pm
I also wanted to thank everyone for taking the time and creating this site; the discussions and updates not only made me feel better, but now I also know that I can travel too. I will be in cancun early next week.
THANK YOU!!!!!

My husband and I are thinking of booking a trip to the Playa Del Carmen area Sept 1. Has anyone heard of storm damages to this area?
This is our 3rd trip to Mexico. We are so excited, but we are also a little nervous about what Dean might have left behind.
Great website! Keep up the good work.
Cheers!
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:01 pm
HMT – I’ve heard no reports of damage in Playa del Carmen. I think the city was very organized in their hurricane preparations, and then they didn’t get hit badly. I’m sure you won’t even see any evidence of the drama that was Hurricane Dean.
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:37 pm
HMT – http://www.cancuntravelonline.com has some day afther photos of Hurricane Dean at Playa Del Carmen. Looks like everthing is back to normal. I will be traveling to Playa Del Carmen on Sept. 2nd. Go to the forum section under Hurricane Dean.
August 22nd, 2007 at 7:20 pm
Thanks for the helpful information! This makes us feel much better about booking a trip.
