Good morning Cancun
August 21, 2007 6:41 am Previous Hurricanes ArchiveWell, that was a non-event, lol. Not even any big winds, not a darned thing happened. A bit of a let down but more of a relief than anything. I think it proved that Cancun is absolutely prepared for a catastrophic hurricane, everyone calmly gathered their supplies, got as many tourists out as possible and battened down the hatches. It might be a case of the Boy Who Cried Wolf, but I for one am glad for the drill. If we are going to live in an area prone to such events, it’s good to know that we can handle them. Thanks to the residents of Cancun, all my friends here and our online support, thank you all.
It appears that Dean hit land around Majahual, a good thing in terms of the amount of damage he could do. He stayed away from really populated areas, now we just need to see what the environmental damage will be. Yes, there are people living in that area and I hope they are all safe and sound and under the protection of the government of Quintana Roo. We actually just saw a weather report that is predicting a partially sunny day, so I guess it’s back to normal for us in Cancun.
Ok, off to clean up the mess of five adults, two kids, two dogs and a cat. Here’s your “good morning” video……

I’m from Brazil and I’ve scheduled my trip to Cancun in Sept. 20th.
I confess I’m really scared with the news about hurricane Dean, but thanks God nothing serious have happened.
And I’d like to praise this blog and its authors…
Besides of the situation, you keep your readers informed about the hurricane and the site is being helpful to me…

You guys are awesome. I was supposed to go tomorrow…probably wont. I am afraid of the beach erosion, and according to weather.com, its supposed to rain the 7 days that we were supposed to be there. I’m really bummed. I havent cancelled my flight yet…i still have a shiver of hope that the weather will be sunny for those days. I guess i’ll decide tonight.

Hi there, I am somewhat relieved to hear that Cancun and north of Riviera Maya were not hit that terribly again and hope the south is not too bad. I guess they just almost recovered from Wilma. We have been there in 2005 when Wilma made her direct hit in this area and caused serious damages. I was very concerned and sent prayers for all of you there in advance. But also I am still very thankful to have experienced the great and very helpful support of all the local people, which made the almost 3 days stuck in the shelter a kind of acceptable(as it was very well prepared) and we felt safe. Even afterwards under all the obstacles they serviced us greatly until we could depart. We surely will come back to repeat the vacation (hopefully without a Hurricane then). Thanks for all posts on this website, so I could somehow follow up what is going on over there.
Take care!

Glad to hear all is well there!
Been watching Weather Channel reports from Puerto Adventuras and the waves have been pounding the area unrelentingly and some of the rooms closest to the water on the first floors are flooded and alot alot of beach erosion has been reported.
Thanks for the updates.
Hopefully clear skies and smooth sailing are in the future.

Hi Kelly
I too loved the video. I have been reading your blogs all day and night and I think you must be a great person with a great sense of humour to be doing all this when your lives were potentially in danger.Im so glad to hear that there has been minimal damage to Cancun and everyone there is ok. Cant wait to arrive in two weeks time.
