August 21, 2007 12:24 pm Previous Hurricanes ArchiveSeems Isla Mujeres did alright and has gained some beach at Playa Norte. I was there a couple of weeks ago and these pictures stunned me, there seems to be a lot more sand than when we were there!
Thanks to Captain Tony at islamujeres.info for these pics…..

Hi, first, thank you for the info, much more informative than the news. How is the beach water? I fear there is debri. Is it sanitary to swim in? There will be 17 of us, family and extended family, coming to Iberostar Paraiso del Mar, N of Playa del Carmen, on 9/2. We will have 5 children under 4 yrs so our concern is more for them. I appreciate any info.

Y’all are a lifesaver keeping us updated like this. Is the cell phone network in Cancun up & operating?
Will the nightclubs be opening soon?

Can’t believe that all that most of the people posting comments/questions care about is if their vacation will be ruined.

Hi, the beaches in Playa Del Carmen and north are less damaged than predicted as Hurricane Dean hit the coast further south. At the moment the beach is not suitable for swimming or sunbathing, but have no idea when this will change. Currently the sea is very wild, waves look about 2 metres, and lots of debris in the water. Heaps of sand has been washed up, the sea is high tide, ie. up close to the buildings, some palm trees have been ripped out and debris is lying on the sand. It is also still very windy right on the coast, so not holiday conditions. As the beach has been reasonably damaged it may be a couple of days before tourist facilities on the beachfront (hotels, umbrella and deckchair rentals) are operating. One street away from the beach, restaurants and cafes open and people are opening their businesses and shops, as of course they still rely on tourist business. No idea when the sea will calm down again, I haven´t found a site that monitors beach or sea conditions after storms like this. Bear in mind that the damage at Cacun and further north may be even less than that described above. Maybe call the hotel you´ve booked at to check they are open and ask about the beach conditions. Good luck for your holidays.

As a further note - conditions may improve quite quickly, so try to get more info before cancelling as it is really lovely here, and the atmosphere is still great!

CHECK THE STAIRS TO THE BEACH AT THE CRYSTAL HOTEL…BEACH IS GONE..BE MORE ACCURATE ON THE REALITY OF THE BEACH

Ed- I’ve only read a little bit about Cozumel, early reports suggest that everything is ok over there.
Joe Tourist- The Krystal Hotel has never really had a beach, it always crashes on their wall. Check the title of this post, those pics and report are about Isla Mujeres anyway, not about Cancun. We’re not here to lie to anybody.

Thank you for setting Joe Tourist straight. Thank you also for all of your hard work over the last week. Those of us that have a piece of our heart in the Cancun area appreciate every blog you have entered. I have been going there numerous times a year for over 15 years. We have 5 Godchildren there and I worried so much because I remember Wilma and the devistation and the sadness. I am so happy the area was spared. I am so happy that you were there to report it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart……….

I share the same interests and concerns as alot of the others you have received. Would like a realistic and sincere answer. Are the beaches turbulent or are they calm. I have not been able to find anything online with current beach conditions. We are scheduled to leave to Cancun on Sept. 2nd and are skeptical in taking the trip. Considering postponing our trip but would like to know an inside recommendation. Appreciate you sharing a response.
