Cancun Webcams
With thanks to the Royal Resorts Hotels of Cancun we now have permission to use their live Cancun webcam feed to give you a visual picture of what is happening right now in Cancun. This Cancun webcam is updated every 30 minutes, please refresh the page to see the new images. The webcams are located at the Royal Resorts hotels right in the heart of the Cancun hotel zone.
We also have our Cancun webcam which updates every few seconds. No pretty pics of Cancun beaches on this one, but you’ll have some idea of current conditions in Cancun, and even see the clouds moving in almost real time.
Please bear in mind that due to almost certain power shortages these Cancun webcams may be offline during the peak of the storm. So please check back regularly. If we go down, we’ll be trying to get back online asap.

August 20th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
Hey guys !!!
The hurricane will be far away from cancun. So we are ok and safe !!!
August 20th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
I vacationed in cancun this past May and also April of last year. My heart goes out to everyone there…they were still recovering and rebuilding after the last storm. Breaks my heart to think of them potentially being slammed again and having to deal with all of that. My prayers are with all of the folks in Cancun…the native folks are wonderful people.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

August 20th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Batten down the hatches guy’s! Looks like you might be ‘lucky’ and miss the worst of it though! Myself and my wife were in Cancun (Riu Cancun) in May this year and we both fell in love with the place as it really has got that ‘something special’ feeling about it.The Mexican people were so happy, polite and friendly too. Good luck to all of you.
August 20th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
I was supposed to be travelling tomorrow but they have delayed flight for 24 hours. I could not wait to go, but now I am a bit afraid. However, lets see how it goes as it may well be that cancun is not affected after all. I hope for the best I love this website!!!
August 20th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
As a Canadian, sitting back in my cozy bungalow far away from any harm, where my biggest worry is whether to water the garden or not, I am still anquished with worry over the people that live and work in the path of this monstrous storm. Mexico is near and dear to my heart, a favorite place to visit, and a place that I can only wish the best for. In spite of its foibles, Mexico is a vibrant, resilient country, and I pray to God they will be spared from the fury of nature.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Someone mentioned they would like to send money to help with relief efforts. What a generous thought, I love that people like you are still out there. Once we have an idea of which areas are in need, I am sure we can find a very specific place to send any donations. Thanks in advance for your generousity.

Add my thank you to the list. This was a very helpful, comprehensive site. I used it to relay info to my husband and son who were in the Yucatan area. I could find out things they couldn’t, then let them know, including helping with rebooking flights.

I recently moved and retired to San Felipe, MX. My heart reaches out to everyone in Hurricane Dean’s path. Your website is fantastic.
I can’t find a Red Cross locally with English speaking personnel. How can I volunteer my time and self to help any relief efforts? I’m really good with computers and administration.

My daughter and new husband were honeymooning in Cancun 08/13-08/21. We alerted them about Dean on Friday since they had heard nothing about it at the resort. Luckily, they were able to get out early Saturday. Not so lucky for the new tourists still arriving as they were leaving who had not yet heard about Dean. We are watching closely and hope the very best for all the beautiful resort locations.

We were just there the first week in July for my sister’s wedding. I fell in love with the place. We are still dealing with hurricanes Katrina and Rita here so my heart is really heavy for all in the Yucatan.

We left on Saturday on two paid seats and two standby seats on Champion Airlines. They charged us change fees and they still brought more tourists down Saturday afternoon. So negligent and uninformed! Reading that 11,000 people were evacuated on Sunday and seeing that 25 more planes left first thing this morning makes me glad we went on Saturday – and got out of the way. We love the Mayan Riviera and the people. I am so sad for everyone we left behind to be hit by this monster storm. Your web-site is so useful I am not reading anything else! Good luck and be safe!

First of all, thank you so much for the website and your insight. For those of us far away and far removed from the chaos, this communication is strangely comforting. Your website has played a big part in turning me into a Hurricane Dean junkie! I have been to almost every website to get info (yours is by far the most informative and real). And I had the Cancun Webcam open on my work computer all day (along with a few other sites!) I have only been to Mexico once..Cozumel in June 2006, but the area and the people found a special place in my heart. I am hoping to get there again in the next couple of months, especially now, to see for myself that you are alright and to revisit a friend whom I met while there. He lives in Cozumel but is close to Tulum right now for work. I guess my concern for him and his family started my following Dean. To all in Dean’s path, Stay safe. Please. My thoughts are with you.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Cancun.
To Helen, my daughter was staying at the Riu Caribe in 2005 when hurricane Wilma hit, although they were evacuated the Riu stood up to the hurrican (which reached catogory 5) very well and they would of been better off staying there.

August 21st, 2007 at 7:15 am
I just visited Iberostar Paraiso Lindo. It was beautiful and I hope after Dean the area has a very quick recovery. For those with vacations planned, do everything you can to make sure you get to the area. You will love the area and will also be able to help their economy with a smooth recovery. Good luck to all.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:29 am
im going down there on vacation sept 4th….will they still be cleaning up…or is there no damage to CANCUN?
August 21st, 2007 at 7:30 am
My hopes and Prayers are with all in Cancun, Cozumel and the rest of the Yucatan. I went on honeymoon just south of Cancun 3 years ago and it stole my heart with its people, beauty and history. It is the people who live and work there in particular, who are in my thoughts, much more so than the tourists, who are all we seem to hear about here in the UK.
We are coming back to Mexico in 3 weeks but staying in Cozumel for the first time and as long as the hotel is open, we will be there, it is important to support the local community after a time like this. Regardless of whether my holiday is ruined or not, it is nothing in comparison to the lives that can be ruined by Dean, I think we should just take a little time to put things into perspective. Cancun has avoided a direct hit but somewhere else is still suffering! The holiday-makers knew there was a chance of a hurricane (it is the season after all) it is the people whose homes and business are destroyed who my heart bleads for, the tourists can just put it behind them and head home, it is everyone else that has to stay behind a re-build!
August 21st, 2007 at 7:34 am
Hello Everyone,
A few weeks ago I didn’t know anything about Cancun, Yucatan, Tulum etc. I didn’t even knew where this place on earth was. Because we are coming 9/25 to Tulum now I learned a lot of this part of Mexico. Thx for all the info on this website.
You al beat Dean … so you can beat everything. Good Luck for the comming days !!
Greeting from the other side of the World.

Great site! So glad Cancun was spared from the hurricane. We are planning to go to the Moon Palace on Sunday, 8/26. Can’t find anything online about status of this resort, but assuming everything is ok there. Please respond if you know info concerning this particular resort.
Thanks!
August 21st, 2007 at 2:00 pm
My family and friends and in general all the population in Cancun were spared of further tragedy. Thanks to God and His Divine power. Now, we have to think in helping the people in the chetumal area who lost their humple belongings. Why is always the poor who get the worst?
Thank you for this site and whoever are responsible to keep us posted. You are great!

REGION AKUMAL
U Nah Kin in Aventuras Akumal: locals and owners are fine and safe. They gained beach. Early assessment, most properties have minimal glass damage, some places have water damage on ground level, but over all in good shape.
Lol Ha snack bar had lots of sand.

No damage, general clean up opening next week.
VIVA MAYA and AZTECA in Playa del Carmen official report are open and running as usual. Phones to be repaired by tomorrow. No damages whatsoever.
Just heard from my TA regarding Casa Sombra in Aventuras Akumal… the front window is blown out.. but all in all the property is fine with the sea and sand inside the Casa.. clean up should go quickly.
Bahia Principe open running normally.
Reef Playacar, open running normally.
Report from Vista del Mar Condominiums, Hotel and La Buena Vida Restaurant:
Talked to Jamie in North Akumal this AM.
La Buena Vida suffered damage. Repairs begin tomorrow. Re-open date will be SOON, to be advised.

i am staying at dreams tulum on september the 5th, anyone know if its open and if there is much damage?
thank you
August 21st, 2007 at 4:20 pm
So thankful that Cancun and other areas were spared; they suffered more than enough with Wilma. My prayers are with those who lived in the area that was hit. May they all survive. The mexican people are so thoughtful and sincere…I enjoy my yearly visit tremendously.
August 21st, 2007 at 4:40 pm
TO Annie:
We’re staying at Riu Palace Aug 26-Sep 2nd. Check our RIU’s web site – they say business is as usual. There are only “minor damages to the resort’s exterior and gardens” – a few tiles fell off and a couple of palm trees need to be replaced. It all will be done by the time you get there!
August 21st, 2007 at 4:47 pm
SP, where did you see that it is going to rain the entire week of 8-27? Not sure if you have ever been to Cancun, but it is a very tropical place and it can rain out of the blue. It is so hot & humid there, that vacationers are glad for the occasional sprinkle. But as quickly as rain comes, it goes. So no need to worry, ok. Below is a forecast I found for the week of 8-27:
http://www.accuweather.com/world-forecast-15day.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&locCode=NAM|MX|MX023|CANCUN&metric=1

to I-LOVE-CANCUN:
Been to Cancun once before, in 2006. Rained only once, I think. Got the weather forcast off the Weather.com and Weatherunderground.com
I hope you’re right. But there might be hurricane “leftovers” – if you look at the satellite photo, there’s a “tail” of the hurricane that will bring lots of moisture. Of coarse I hope it will not be the case, but in the mean time am keeping my fingers crossed!
August 21st, 2007 at 5:26 pm
SP, I hope the days stay DRY. I too will be be Cancun starting 9-1. I don’t mind the rain too much once I am there. The only thing that scares me is the flight > I’M A BIG CHICKEN, especially when it is raining. Rain normally means a BUMPY flight, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Deans LEFT-OVERS are way gone on the day of my 9-1 arrival.
Thanks for your reply.

Just returned from another fantastic holiday at Riu Tequila and missed the hurricane. Although never been to Mexico when a hurricane has hit I know that the mexicans would look after us. Its the best holiday destination we have been to, the country and mexican people are great I will be booking shortly to return next year. Friends think we are taking a risk but until you have been to mexico you dont realise how beautiful it is.
Glad there doesnt seem to be as much damage as first thought.
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Tracey,
When people think visiting MEXICO is “TAKING A RISK”….
those people are just plain IGNORANT! Those are the same people that never travel, never try new/different foods…I JUST FEEL SORRY FOR THEM! They are so deprived of LIFE! Travel is the best thing one can do and THE BEST CURE FOR THE IGNORANT. This is why there is so much hate in the WORLD, people think its all about them! But as all of us that do lots of travel around the world KNOW DIFFERENT. if people would just take the time to meet their neighbor. Mexico is one of the most beautiful places anyone can visit, the people are wonderful/hard-working, the food is amazing and Mexico has some of the BEST beaches in the world! And trust me…MEXICO IS NOT AS POOR AS PEOPLE THINK or AS DANGEROUS AS PEOPLE THINK. Don’t believe the news! There is more danger here in the U.S. Instead of judging a place before you’ve even been there… fork out some MONEY, book a trip to see for yourself. Not just Mexico, ANYWHERE! Get out of your caves people!!!! I live in Las Vegas and honestly, I feel more at danger here.
LIFE IS A WASTE WITHOUT TRAVEL!!!!

Will be in Cancun saturday.
I-LOVE-CANCUN,
thank you, thats exactly what i think. If we do not travel we wont have the chance to learn from other poulations in the world. And some need the work with the tourists to life their lives. So we not even travel, we are helping too.
This is the most interesting site i ever visited.
So, have a nice time, perhaps we see us in Yucatan. Solong….
